Volver is an exceptional film that is definitely worth purchasing on DVD. It has a timeless quality that will make you want to watch it over and over again. The performances of all the actresses, including Penelope Cruz, are outstanding and will delight viewers. Despite addressing serious issues, Almodovar manages to infuse the film with tongue-in-cheek humor, giving it a unique and almost Dali-esque quality. As an added bonus, the DVD includes an interview with Almodovar and the actresses, which is far from boring or self-indulgent. In fact, this interview alone makes the DVD worth buying.
I purchased this film primarily to enhance my Spanish skills, and I found it to be highly engaging and entertaining.
I first watched this film in 2005 and was captivated by its unique humor and stunning cinematography. Upon rewatching it on a TV screen, I noticed that some of the visual beauty was lost, but I connected more deeply with the underlying melancholy and haunting theme of "Volver," which is explored in various ways throughout the movie. I won't spoil any details, but this film is truly a masterpiece and feels more resolved compared to "Woman on the Verge."
