SKS Tom 18 Multi-Tool

SKS Tom 18 Multi‑Tool

The SKS Tom 18 Multi‑Tool is a compact, all‑in‑one solution designed for cyclists who demand versatility without bulk. With eighteen integrated functions, this miniature kit fits comfortably in any bike saddle bag or pocket, yet delivers the performance of a full workshop.

Core Features

• Two detachable Allen key sets: Covers sizes 2.5 mm to 8 mm, ideal for common bike components such as seat posts, stem bolts, and headset spacers.
• Dual‑head screwdrivers: Includes a flat‑head and a Phillips head, both with ergonomic grips for quick torque application on pedals, handlebars, and other fasteners.
• Torx T25 wrench: Essential for modern bike frames that use Torx screws to secure components like brake calipers or derailleur mounts.
• Radio (G14 & G15) wrench: Allows adjustment of the rear hub’s freewheel or cassette, a common maintenance task for riders who replace gears frequently.
• Bottle opener: A classic feature that keeps hydration handy during long rides.
• Brake pad opener: Facilitates quick removal and replacement of rim brake pads, ensuring optimal braking performance.
• Chain pin compartment: Stores the small but critical chain pins used in many European bicycle designs.
• Chain breaker (tronchacadenas): Enables safe and efficient chain maintenance or replacement without needing a separate tool.

Construction & Materials

The Tom 18 is built from high‑strength Cromo‑Vanadio (Cr‑V) steel, known for its excellent toughness and resistance to wear. Key components are finished in stainless steel to prevent corrosion, ensuring the tool remains reliable even after exposure to rain or road salt.

Design & Ergonomics

The tool’s compact dimensions—approximately 73 mm × 48 mm × 21 mm—make it lightweight and easy to carry. Each attachment is secured with a snap‑fit mechanism, allowing rapid exchange without the need for additional fasteners. The handle surfaces are textured for a firm grip, reducing slippage during high‑torque tasks.

Applications on the Road

• Quick adjustments: Tighten or loosen seat posts, stem bolts, and headset spacers on the fly.
• Brake maintenance: Replace rim brake pads or adjust calipers without leaving the trail.
• Gear changes: Adjust cassette spacing or replace a chain with minimal effort.
• Emergency repairs: Fix minor frame issues, such as loose bolts, during long rides.
• Convenience tools: Open bottles and brake pads without carrying separate accessories.

Why Cyclists Choose the SKS Tom 18

For riders who value portability, durability, and comprehensive functionality, the Tom 18 delivers. Its one‑size design accommodates a wide range of bike models, from road racers to mountain bikes. The inclusion of both metric and imperial tools (e.g., G14/G15) ensures compatibility with international components.

Maintenance & Care

To keep the Tom 18 in peak condition:

1. After use, wipe down all metal parts with a dry cloth to remove sweat and grime.
2. Avoid exposing the tool to extreme temperatures or direct flame.
3. If corrosion appears on stainless steel elements, gently polish with a mild abrasive pad.

Whether you’re a daily commuter or an endurance rider, this kit equips you to tackle most on‑road challenges without the bulk of a full toolbox. Its robust construction, versatile tool set, and thoughtful design make it an indispensable companion for any serious cyclist.
