Comments & Ratings about this product
Wallander 4, the final season of Branagh's Wallander, is a great show that I thoroughly enjoyed. I binge-watched all four seasons and it was an emotional rollercoaster. This series is often compared to the Swedish version, which I also have and enjoy. The British version stands on its own and has its unique qualities. In this season, Branagh once again showcases his acting skills in well-written movies. Although the series doesn't end on a positive note, it still provides a satisfying conclusion. With good mysteries, high-quality productions, and excellent performances from the cast, this season is definitely worth watching.
Series 4 was released approximately three years after the initial three series. It may be disappointing to watch it in isolation due to its significant differences. In this installment, Wallender no longer has a team and the focus is on his mental decline. However, if you watch the first three series before viewing the fourth, you will notice the continuity between them. The extras are particularly poignant as they reflect the author's own battle with cancer and subsequent passing, suggesting that he went down with his hero. Overall, I found the entire series deeply moving and Kenneth Branagh truly embodies Wallander's essence.
I received this comment on April 26, 2017 (am). The DVD contains two episodes on one disc and one episode with all the extras on the other. The quality is excellent and the subtitles are very helpful. I recognized a lot of the South African scenery from my visit to Cape Town and the surrounding area.
The biggest contrast in the series is seen between Wallander's state in the first episode and the last. In the final episode, we witness Wallander battling dementia while still successfully solving a case. Kenneth Branagh delivers a convincing performance in portraying this struggle. It serves as a fitting conclusion to an engaging and dark detective series led by Branagh.
I now own all episodes of Wallander ever made, including the Swedish versions with English subtitles. It's unfortunate that the entire series has come to an end!
