Wallander may not appeal to everyone, as it is quite dark for those who enjoy regular murder/detective stories. However, the character gradually earns sympathy due to his obsessive nature and the underlying reasons behind his compulsion to solve problems. Additionally, Wallander's personal background and eventual illness contribute to the overall story. If you are not easily impatient, it is worth following through with this series.
After reading the books and watching the Swedish TV adaptations, I can confidently say that Kenneth Branagh's Wallander is the ultimate TV version. It perfectly captures the essence of the books and remains true to their original stories. Although there are some plot changes, these are likely necessary for TV adaptation purposes.
