Comments & Ratings about this product
What a perfect rainy day to stay in and watch films! This film has a heartwarming story that is easy to relate to, with some unexpected twists.
This film is a must-watch for anyone who loves Provence and craves the sunshine. The beautiful scenery and captivating ambiance alone make it worth watching. However, it also offers a highly enjoyable story with outstanding performances from the entire cast. Russell Crowe convincingly portrays Max, a tough city trader who unexpectedly inherits a Provençal mas and vineyard from his uncle. Initially planning to sell it, Max soon discovers the magic of the place and falls under the spell of Fany (played by Marion Cotillard), leading him towards a more fulfilling way of life. While some may find the addition of an American girl claiming to be his uncle's unknown illegitimate daughter slightly unnecessary, she does serve to highlight Max's kind-hearted nature. Overall, I wholeheartedly recommend this film, especially for those looking to escape the UK winter for a while.
I found the first half hour of the film to be quite irritating because I didn't connect with the comedy. However, once Albert Finney started playing the favorite uncle and Freddie Highmore appeared as his nephew (known for his role in The Good Doctor), I began to enjoy it. The scenes set in Provence were beautiful, and the story became more engaging. Although there was a subplot involving another child that wasn't fully resolved, overall it's still worth watching on a chilly January evening!
