Overview of the Bosch PWB 600 Mobile Folding Workbench
The Bosch PWB 600 is a versatile, lightweight aluminium workbench engineered for professionals and hobbyists alike. Designed to combine stability, portability, and durable construction, it offers an ergonomic workspace that can be folded and moved with ease.
Key Design Features
- Aluminium Frame: The entire frame is constructed from high‑strength aluminium alloy, providing a lightweight yet robust structure that resists corrosion and deformation under load.
- Foldable Top: The work surface folds flat against the base, enabling quick storage or transport. When unfolded, it offers a solid working plane measuring approximately 840 mm by 640 mm.
- Integrated Clamping Jaws: Four heavy‑duty clamping jaws are mounted on the underside of the bench. These jaws can secure workpieces up to 85 mm in width, ensuring a firm grip during cutting, drilling, or sanding operations.
- Mobile Casters with Locks: Four castor wheels equipped with locking mechanisms allow the bench to be moved effortlessly while maintaining positional stability when locked.
- Adjustable Height: The bench height can be altered by sliding the legs or adjusting the caster length, accommodating users of varying statures and task requirements.
- Tool Storage Slots: Integrated slots along the sides provide convenient storage for hand tools, measuring instruments, and accessories, keeping them within reach during work.
Dimensions & Capacity
The Bosch PWB 600 measures 840 mm (L) × 640 mm (W) × 90 mm (H) when unfolded. Its maximum load capacity is rated at 200 kg, making it suitable for heavy-duty woodworking, metalworking, and general workshop tasks.
Material Composition
The bench’s frame is fabricated from 6061 aluminium alloy, known for its excellent strength‑to‑weight ratio and resistance to fatigue. The top surface is a solid aluminium plate with a matte finish that reduces glare and provides a smooth, non‑reflective working area.
Clamping Jaws – Functionality & Benefits
The four clamping jaws are engineered for precision and strength:
- Jaw Width Capacity: Each jaw can clamp objects up to 85 mm wide, accommodating a broad range of workpieces.
- Secure Locking Mechanism: The jaws feature a lever‑actuated lock that holds the clamped item firmly in place, preventing slippage during machining.
- Easy Adjustment: Users can quickly reposition the jaws along the bench surface to align with the workpiece, enhancing workflow efficiency.
- Durable Construction: Made from hardened steel, the jaws resist wear and maintain a consistent grip over prolonged use.
Mobility & Portability
The Bosch PWB 600 is designed for workshops where space is at a premium. Its lightweight construction (approximately 11.6 kg) combined with four casters allows the bench to be moved across floors or between workstations without strain. The caster locks ensure that once positioned, the bench remains stationary during operation.
Assembly & Setup
Setting up the PWB 600 is straightforward:
- Unfold the Bench: Slide the top surface out of its folded position until it locks into place.
- Secure the Casters: Engage the caster lock to prevent unintended movement.
- Adjust Height: If necessary, slide the legs or adjust the caster length to achieve the desired working height.
- Position Clamping Jaws: Align the jaws with your workpiece and engage the locking lever for a firm hold.
Maintenance & Care Instructions
To preserve the bench’s performance:
- Regularly clean the aluminium surface with a mild detergent and soft cloth to remove dust and debris.
- Inspect the clamping jaws for signs of wear or damage; replace if necessary.
- Check caster locks periodically to ensure they remain functional.
- Avoid exposing the bench to extreme temperatures or corrosive chemicals that could compromise the aluminium alloy.
Safety Considerations
When using the Bosch PWB 600, observe these safety guidelines:
- Always secure workpieces with the clamping jaws before operating power tools.
- Do not exceed the bench’s maximum load capacity of 200 kg to prevent structural failure.
- Keep the working area clear of obstructions that could interfere with the casters or cause tripping hazards.
- Use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) such as safety glasses, gloves, and hearing protection when operating machinery on the bench.
Applications & Use Cases
The Bosch PWB 600 excels in a variety of workshop scenarios:
- Woodworking: Ideal for cutting, sanding, and assembling wooden components with secure clamping.
- Metal Fabrication: Provides a stable platform for drilling, grinding, or welding metal sheets up to 85 mm thick.
- DIY Projects: Its portability makes it perfect for home garages where space is limited.
- Mobile Workstations: The folding design allows technicians to set up temporary work areas at job sites or during field inspections.
Comparison with Similar Bosch Models
The PWB 600 shares core attributes with other Bosch workbenches such as the PWB 500 and PWB 700, yet it distinguishes itself through:
- Higher Load Capacity: While the PWB 500 tops out at 150 kg, the PWB 600 supports up to 200 kg.
- Integrated Clamping Jaws: The PWB 700 offers optional jaws; the PWB 600 includes them as standard.
- Compact Folded Size: The PWB 600 folds into a smaller footprint than its counterparts, enhancing storage convenience.
Conclusion
The Bosch PWB 600 Mobile Folding Workbench is a thoughtfully engineered solution for anyone requiring a reliable, portable, and versatile workspace. Its aluminium construction, robust clamping system, and user‑friendly mobility make it an indispensable tool in both professional workshops and home garages.

Superior to the B&D Workmate, this framework features a 4-sided square section metal design with plugs at both ends. Unlike the B&D, which has a 3-sided open section, this product is definitely worth the investment.
The vice on the Bosch workbench does not meet flush, which may cause some concern. Additionally, the table's footprint is the same size as the top, making it less stable compared to a Black and Decker Workmate. However, the Bosch workbench is more convenient to transport and open than other options I have tried. It also has a larger worktop, which should improve functionality. My only reservation is that the vice has soft lead screws instead of steel ones, but time will tell if they are durable enough for heavy use (Bosch sells replacements on their website). Overall, this workbench is superior to cheaper alternatives but cannot fully replace a sturdy workmate. Nevertheless, it performs well for most tasks and while it may not last 50 years like an old workmate, it still serves its purpose effectively considering my own lifespan limitations.
I've been using a classic Black and Decker Workmate for 45 years, but I needed something more supportive for my aging back. This upgraded version offers a few extra inches in height, which has made a noticeable difference. Despite being heavier, it provides a larger work surface compared to the B&D model, which is quite useful. Additionally, it's easier to store since it folds flat on both sides and neatly stores the clamp plugs within the frame. While it may not feel as sturdy as my original Workmate, that's expected considering its age.
